Although at the beginning of its inauguration there were still many shortcomings here and there, the Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok, has routinely held motorcycle racing events since its inauguration in November 2021 and has begun to show maximum charm and has improved a lot from various aspects of facilities and technical implementation.
Starting from national racing events to international racing such as the Asia Talent Cup, WorldSBK, and Indonesian MotoGP all successfully held.
After the WorldSBK Mandalika 2023 event, Menparekraf Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, said that Indonesia returned to hold F1.
"The Mandalika Circuit is on par with international circuits in other regions such as Sepang Malaysia and Phillip Island Australia," Sandiaga was quoted as saying. TribunLombok.com.
He argued that the sensation of racing at the Mandalika Circuit was also recognized by the racers.
"This is a very extraordinary capital for Mandalika," said the Menparekraf.
Sandiaga argues, this could be Indonesia's capital to hold F1 at the Mandalika Circuit.
According to Sandiaga, the aspirations of the community to present F1 racing at the Mandalika Circuit have been captured by the government.
"Of course, the scale is much different because it is bigger and also the strength of capital support and preparation will be more, it requires government collaboration with the business world," he said.
In this context, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) will support the implementation of F1 racing at the Mandalika Circuit.
"Hopefully it can be realized, can hold F1 Indonesia on the island of Lombok," he hoped.
Sandiaga Uno added, last week Indonesia had organized F1 Power boat on Lake Toba, and it was held successfully.
"It was also very successful, those who attended from the last tabulation were 40 thousand on Sunday and in totality the movement recorded 100 thousand people," he said.
Meanwhile, President Director of Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) Priandhi Satria explained, to be able to hold F1 racing at the Mandalika Circuit there are many things that must be learned and addressed.
Not only circuit readiness, but also the preparation of human resources (HR) organizers. Starting from language issues to technical matters of F1 racing.
"Heading there (F1) for sure, I myself really want to. But friends, not only marshal, hospitalityAs for security, we must all learn together towards international standards," he said.
According to him, MGPA itself really wants to bring F1 racing to the Mandalika Circuit, but many things must be carefully prepared.
"So asked if you want to? definitely want to. We can, we just have to improve our communication skills and technical skills in organizing the race itself," Priandhi said.
Regarding the plan for the Mandalika Circuit to hold four-wheel racing, a team from the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has conducted an inspection to check the feasibility of the Mandalika Circuit.
As a result, the Mandalika Circuit has so far only received grade two homologation.
With these results the Mandalika Circuit was declared worthy of holding a car race, but not yet for F1 class races.
To be able to hold F1, the Mandalika Circuit must have grade one homologation from the FIA.
