Recently, a group of roller skaters suddenly went viral on social media because they were desperate to go hand in hand on Jalan Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta.
In the video uploaded by the owner of the Youtube account 7Detik, several roller skaters were seen walking in formation in the middle of the highway.
There were also several vehicles that were allegedly upset and honked their horns as they tried to get ahead of the rollerblading group.
As quoted from GridOto.com, related to this incident, Andry Berlianto, as the Defensive Driving Instructor of Global Defensive Driving Consulting (GDDC), also gave his comments from a safety perspective.
According to Andry, the behavior of the rollerblading group can endanger themselves and other road users.
"This is a dangerous act and was done out of place," said Andry.
He also added that rollerblade users are very likely to be nudged or even hit by other vehicles.
"Its movement can be dangerous and invite potential accidents such as being nudged or hit by other vehicles," he explained.
Andry also believes that the rollerblading group should walk in the leftmost lane to be safer from potential collisions.
"Because it looks like a pedestrian, its position should really be in the leftmost lane and not zigzagging in other lanes," Andry concluded.
