Car Sales in Indonesia Increase

New car sales figures on a national scale in August 2022 showed positive results. 

Quoted from Gridoto.com, Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), retail or dealer-to-consumer sales of new cars reached 91,164 units during August 2022.

New car sales in August 2022 increased by 16.8 percent, when compared to the achievement in August 2021 which only recorded 75,820 units.

While wholesales or factory-to-dealer sales recorded 96,956 units, up about 14 percent compared to the same period last year of 83,319 units.

GAIKINDO Secretary General Kukuh Kumara said that the positive results of new car sales in August 2022 were supported by the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2022).

Therefore, it is optimistic that the four-wheeled vehicle market can continue to grow until the end of the year so as to achieve the planned target.

"Hopefully we can achieve the target, which is still unchanged at 900 thousand units for car sales this year," Kukuh said recently.

In total, from January to August 2022 new car sales in the country recorded a retail figure of 637,040 units and wholesales 658,232 units.

These results have increased, because the same period in 2021 only obtained retail sales 527,697 units and wholesales of 543,424 units.

The title of the best-selling car brand is still held by PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), which managed to sell 29,996 units at retail in August 2022.

Following in second place was PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), which achieved retail sales of 16,551 units.

PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) stuck to the third best-selling brand, which during August 2022 recorded retail sales of 10,983 units.

Next is PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) in the fourth position of the best-selling brand in August 2022, with retail sales of 7,816 units.

While PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI)
took fifth place by accumulating retail sales of 7,669 units.
