Big CC motorcycle riders, you need to get your license again!

Did you know that the Indonesian National Police (Polri)) is planning to implement the classification of driving licenses (SIM).) C starting August 2021. This is stated in Police Regulation (Perpol) Number 5 of 2021 concerning the Ordering and Marking of Driving Permits or SIMs.. The regulation classifies the use of SIM C based on engine capacity and electric motor power. The regulation states that SIM C will be classified into three parts. First, SIM C is valid for those of you who drive motorized vehicles of the motorcycle type with an engine cylinder capacity of up to 250 cc. Next, the CI driver's license is valid for those who drive a motorcycle with an engine cylinder capacity of more than 250 cc up to 500 cc, or similar vehicles that use electric power. Finally, the CII driver's license is for those who drive a motorcycle with an engine cylinder capacity of more than 500 cc or similar motorized vehicles that use electric power.

Here's the full text of Police Regulation (Perpol) Number 5 of 2021 in Article 3 paragraph 2:

1. DRIVER'S LICENSE C: valid for driving a motorcycle with an engine cylinder capacity of up to 250 cc (two hundred and fifty cubic centimeters);
2. CI DRIVER'S LICENSE, applies to driving Ranmor type of Motorcycle with engine cylinder capacity above 250 cc (two hundred fifty centimeters cubic) up to 500 cc (five hundred centimeters cubic) or similar Ranmor that uses electric power;
3. CII DRIVER'S LICENSE, applies to driving a Ranmor type of Motorcycle with an engine cylinder capacity above 500 cc (five hundred centimeters cubic) or similar Ranmor that uses electric power.

Thus, users of big motorcycles (moge) or electric motorcycles will soon have to have a C1 SIM or C2 SIM (depending on engine capacity).

Then the question that arises afterwards is how much does it cost to get a SIM C I and SIM C II? This has been stated in Government Regulation Number 60 of 2016 concerning Types and Tariffs on Types of Non-Tax State Revenue Applicable to the Indonesian National Police. The regulation explains that the cost of making a SIM C I or SIM C II is 100 thousand rupiah. However, that does not include fees for insurance of 30 thousand rupiah and a medical examination of 25 thousand rupiah.

So, it looks like those of you who own Harley Davidson, Ducati, and other large-cc sport bikes will soon have to adjust your driver's license so that you can continue to drive on the highway while riding your moge.
