Tips for Choosing Spark Plugs for Your Motorcycle

Until now, there may still be many who are confused about the difference between daily spark plugs and iridium spark plugs or racing plugs.

In shape, iridium and ordinary spark plugs are almost the same. However, if you look in detail, the electrode tip is different. The materials and specifications are also not the same. To make it clearer, here we explain the characteristics of the two types of spark plugs that you can choose from in the workshop to use on your motorcycle for everyday use.

Regular Spark Plugs

These spark plugs are also called standard factory-made spark plugs made of copper metal. These spark plugs are for daily use vehicles. This is because their working capabilities have been set to the needs of standard vehicles. The tip of the electrode core of a standard spark plug is a small rod made of copper. Copper is a metal that can be a pretty good conductor. However, copper is prone to corrosion. The melting point of copper metal itself is around 1,085 Celsius.

Although unremarkable, it turns out that the life of a standard spark plug is relatively long. This type of spark plug is more optimal if used for stable, low, and medium rpm or engine rotation. Therefore, this copper spark plug is able to produce a stable engine stationary. Standard spark plugs have a lifespan of 8,000 to 10,000 km.

Iridium Spark Plugs

Iridium spark plugs are often called spark plugs racing or racing. This spark plug is suitable for vehicles with high rpm. This type of spark plug including cold spark plugs will produce more aggressive acceleration and the shape of the electrode tip on this spark plug is tapered. The structure of this spark plug is designed so that the sparks produced can be evenly distributed. The tip of the tapered iridium spark plug electrode core is made of iridium material which is a fairly good conductor. This material is very heat-resistant and anti-rust because its melting point reaches 2,000 celsius.

The durability of iridium iron is also better than that of conventional spark plugs. Therefore, the service life of these spark plugs is also longer than other spark plugs. Despite their high power output, these spark plugs do not require a large voltage to generate a spark. Iridium spark plugs are designed to be as small as 0.4 mm, so their durability is better than standard spark plugs. Iridium spark plugs are replaced after 50,000 km.

Well, after seeing the explanation above, hopefully you can measure and weigh in determining the right choice of spark plugs and according to your needs.
