Should you place the transmission lever of an automatic car in D or N when stopping?

Until now, there are still many car drivers who debate about how the gearshift in an automatic transmission car should be located when it is stopped. So, when stopping on the road, should you keep the transmission in D or move it to N?

The question of whether an automatic car stays in D (Drive) or switches to N (Neutral) when stopped on the road is still often raised and debated.

When stopped, the driver of a car with an automatic transmission has two options: stay in D or shift to N.

To answer this question, we refer to a statement from an expert, "You can stay in D while stepping on the brake pedal if you are stopped for a moment," explained Ichsan Ady Permana, Staff Instructor of Technical Training Center PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) as quoted from GridOto.com.

So, let's say you're at a standstill such as in a traffic jam or stop 'n goIt's best if the transmission lever can remain in position D while your right foot continues to press the brake pedal.

"If you are stopping for a long time, you should move the transmission lever to the neutral position," Ichsan continued.

An illustration of long stopping conditions on the road is when waiting for a red light at the traffic light.

You should pull the handbrake lever when stopped in this N position.

The purpose is to prevent the car from moving on its own due to the sloping road surface.

By now you should know that when stopped on the road, an automatic car stays in D or moves to N.

So, from now on, don't worry anymore.
