When having your motorcycle serviced, there are times when you are afraid of being tricked by unscrupulous mechanics who often replace unnecessary parts on your motorcycle. There are mechanics who try to cheat their clients in this way. However, the truth is that in certain situations, there are motorcycle components that generally need to be replaced, usually during a major service.
Major motorcycle servicing is generally done on motorcycles that are quite old or have traveled high distances.
When performing a major motorcycle engine service, mechanics usually check the engine area by completely disassembling or "splitting the engine".
When "splitting the engine", the inspection focuses on the cylinder block and head area to check the condition of the components inside the motorcycle engine.
Usually, when a major service is carried out, there is a check first and then there will be replacement of components that are experiencing wear or damage.
The major service itself is recommended to be carried out every time the motorcycle has traveled a multiple of 50,000 km. The cost of doing a major service varies, ranging between 400-500 thousand rupiah, not including the replacement of components.
There will usually be three components that need to be replaced during a major service.
The first component is of course the gasket, both the head gasket and the cylinder block gasket must be replaced. Because, the gasket that has been removed will be damaged and must be replaced with a new one to prevent leakage in the engine.
The reason is, if you don't immediately replace and install the old one and then a leak occurs, you will lose twice as much to do the dismantling again.
It is not worth the price of the gasket which is quite affordable.
Then, another component that is usually replaced is the valve seal. Since the life span of the valve cylinders is around 40-50 thousand km, it is better to replace them at the same time as the major service.
The last component that is usually replaced is the piston ring, just like the valve, the life of the piston ring is around 50 thousand km and begins to experience wear and tear.
So, it's best not to wait for your motorcycle to "boil" before replacing it, if your motorcycle has traveled 50 thousand kilometers and is being serviced down the engine, these components should be replaced at once.
The cost of parts such as gaskets, valve seals, and piston rings is not expensive and only adds around 100,000 rupiah for everything.
This major service is also mandatory when you buy a used motorcycle that has traveled more than 50,000 kilometers. Now, you don't have to worry about being "pranked" by unscrupulous mechanics anymore because you already have a better understanding of the ins and outs of major servicing and engine component replacement. The point is, there is no need for major servicing or "splitting the engine" if your motorcycle has not reached 50,000 kilometers.
