Pay Attention to the Condition of Motorcycle Tires during the Rainy Season

Recently, heavy rains have been falling in various parts of Indonesia. Those of you who use motorcycles as your main mode of transportation should always be aware of slippery road conditions due to puddles.

During the rainy season, slippery motorcycle tires and lack of grip are often the cause of accidents.

For those of you who use motorcycles every day, you must know the condition of motorcycle tires that are no longer good for grip during the rainy season.

Usually motorcycle tires whose wear has passed from tread wear indicator will be slippery when worn in the rainy season.

For your information, tread wear indicator or TWI is the tread thickness limit of motorcycle tires.

TWI is marked with a triangular logo on the side wall or a bulge on the tread.

"When pattern or the tire grooves are flush with the TWI, tires usually start to become slippery or wobbly when used on wet roads.

However, there is also the condition of motorcycle tires that are still thick pattern or grooves, but it already feels slippery when driving in the rainy season.

Usually, you should pay attention to the age of the tires because the older the tires are, the harder the rubber will be.

The harder the tire, the less traction it will have on the asphalt, making it slippery during the rainy season.

The longest usage limit for motorcycle tires is 5 years.

This refers to the manufacturer's recommendations in general, many tire manufacturers recommend using motorcycle tires for a maximum of 5 years.

Actually, when it is 6 years old but the grooves are still thick, the tire can still be used. However, the performance (grip against the road) is not as good as new production tires.

So, if your motorcycle tires are more than 5 years old, but the grooves are still thick, it is recommended to replace them.

Because hard tire rubber makes the ability to bite or traction on asphalt reduced so that it will not be maximized traction, especially in rainy conditions.
