Pertalite hoarder arrested in Tangerang

The thing that many Indonesians feared, namely the increase in the price of subsidized fuel oil (BBM) types of Pertalite and Solar, was officially announced by President Joko Widodo on Saturday (3/9/2022) yesterday.

Before the news of the price increase circulated, Tangerang Police had arrested four perpetrators who hoarded approximately 2.5 tons of Pertalite fuel.

According to the Chief of Tangerang Police, Kombes Pol Raden Romdhon Natakusuma, the stacked fuel is sold to grocery stalls at a higher price.

"We also managed to secure four suspects at the same time," Raden Romdhon Natakusuma was quoted as saying. TribunJakarta.com.

The four suspects are RI, R, JW, and PR who were secured from a number of different locations, such as Rajeg, Cisoka and Solear Districts with similar modes.

Romdhon explained that they bought Pertalite from official gas stations using pickups filled with jerry cans.

"There are also those who modify vehicles to transport Pertalite at gas stations," Romdhon explained.

According to him, the four suspects deliberately took advantage of the moment of the Pertalite price surge, which was reportedly going to increase to around IDR 10,000 per liter.

To account for their actions, the four suspects are charged with Article 55 of Indonesian Law number 22 of 2021 concerning Oil and Gas with a maximum imprisonment of six years.

"So basically, this is related to the anticipation of fuel price adjustments by the government, the Tangerang Police carry out various prevention and law enforcement activities, said Romdhon again.

"There should be no misuse of fuel, especially subsidized ones," he concluded.
