Government Canceled PPKM Level 3 during Nataru Holiday

Although it had invited pros and cons at the beginning, finally restrictions related to preventing the spread of the new variant of the covid-19 virus were not enforced. The government has officially canceled plans to implement PPKM Level 3 during the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays. This was mentioned on the official website of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment said that the government decided to make a more balanced policy by not generalizing treatment in all regions of Indonesia.

"The government has decided not to impose Level 3 restrictions on public activities (PPKM) during the Christmas and New Year period in all regions," Luhut said.

The handling of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia has shown significant improvement and is under control at a low level.

According to Luhut, Indonesia has so far succeeded in suppressing the number of daily Covid-19 confirmation cases by stabilizing below 400 cases.

Improvements in the handling of the Covid-19 Pandemic can also be seen from the trend of changes in the PPKM level of city districts in Java Bali.

Based on the assessment as of December 4, the number of city districts remaining at level 3 is only 9.4 percent of the total districts/cities in Java-Bali or only 12 districts/cities.

He added that the spread of Omicron variants in various countries around the world is indicated to be faster and increase the possibility of reinfection.

However, preliminary findings from South Africa suggest the severity and mortality rates of the Omicron variant are relatively manageable, although time and additional data are needed to obtain more valid information.

Responding to these developments, the Government decided to make a more balanced policy by not equalizing treatment in all regions ahead of the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) moments.

The government has decided not to implement PPKM level 3 during the Nataru period in all regions. The application of PPKM levels during Nataru will still follow the assessment of the pandemic situation as it currently applies, but with some tightening.

During Nataru, the requirements for long-distance travel within the country are complete vaccination and negative antigen results a maximum of 1×24 hours before departure.

Adults who have not been fully vaccinated or cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons are not permitted to travel long distances.

Children can travel, but with a valid PCR requirement of 3×24 hours for air travel or 1×24 hours antigen for land or sea travel.

The government also implemented a ban on all types of New Year celebrations in hotels, shopping centers, malls, tourist attractions and other public gathering places.

Meanwhile, the operation of shopping centers, restaurants, cinemas and tourist attractions is only permitted with a maximum capacity of 75 percent and only for people with the green category in the Peduli Lindungi application.
