As you may already know, Operation Patuh Jaya 2021 officially ended on October 3, 2021 yesterday. In the operation that took place since September 20, 2021, officers from the police service have taken action against 44,003 traffic violators.
We also need to know, Kasubdit Gakkum Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Argo Wiyono, explained that violations were dominated by motorists who went against the flow.
"There are 8,028 vehicles ticketed for countercurrent," said AKBP Argo in Jakarta, Monday (4/10/2021). According to Argo, of the 44,003 vehicles caught, tickets were given to 24,262 violators who could not show a driver's license, 19,360 violators for STNK, and the rest were carried out by motorcyclists.
In addition, AKBP Argo Wiyono also added that not all vehicles received tickets in the Patuh Jaya 2021 operation. Approximately 29,982 violators only received a warning from police officers. The number of violations has not changed from last year, violations are still dominated by two-wheeled vehicles, namely 32,554 violators and private four-wheeled vehicles that violate as many as 6,765 motorists. Meanwhile, the number of public transportation violations counted during Operation Patuh Jaya 2021 was 4,684 vehicles.
"Violations are dominated by employee workers as many as 26,153, then students or college students as many as 10,268, while transportation drivers are 4,647," he said further.
As a reference for all of us to better understand traffic, the rule that requires motorists not to go against the flow of traffic is contained in Article 106 paragraph (4) letters a and b of Law Number 22 Year 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ Law). It reads:
Every person driving a motor vehicle on the road must comply with the provisions of: a. command signs or prohibition signs; b. road markings.
For those who violate, get ready to get a ticket with sanctions in the form of fines. Not only fines, even violators of Article 106 paragraph (4) letters a and b of the LLAJ Law can be subject to imprisonment.
Well, here is the full article that motorists must obey regarding opposing the flow of traffic:
Article 287
Every person driving a motor vehicle on the road who violates the rules of orders or prohibitions expressed by traffic signs as referred to in Article 106 paragraph (4) letter a or road markings as referred to in Article 106 paragraph (4) letter b shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 2 months or a maximum fine of Rp 500,000.
Hopefully, in the future, there will be no more people who selfishly go against the direction because the consequences of this seemingly trivial action will endanger themselves and other motorists.
