Honda Repsol recently decided that Stefan Bradl will be the replacement rider for the absent Marc Marquez at the 2021 Algarve MotoGP this weekend. Marc Marquez could not appear in the upcoming racing event because the MotoGP world champion had a brain injury.
After taking two consecutive victories in the previous races at MotoGP America and Emilia Romagna, Marc Marquez had to miss out on the 17th installment of the series.
Marc Marquez suffered a crash during motocross practice on Saturday (30/10/2021) that left him with a mild concussion.
His position at the Algarve MotoGP event will finally be replaced by test rider Honda's Stefan Bradl, who will be racing for the fifth time this season.
For Stefan Bradl, this year was his third chance as a replacement rider for Marc Marquez, in addition to two races with Team Honda HRC.
Stefan Bradl's four previous appearances have yielded points with an 11th-place finish in Qatar, his best result so far.
The Portimao race holds fond memories for the German rider, who did well to finish seventh in 2020 with the Repsol Honda team.
Returning as a substitute rider, Stefan Bradl hopes Marc recovers soon and that he can get back on track soon.
"I'm looking forward to racing again because Portimao is a fun circuit, where we had good results towards the end of 2020," Stefan Bradl said in a Repsol Honda team press release.
Although he admits it's never easy to ride the Honda RC213V, he has had plenty of time this year riding the bike during races and tests.
