IIMS 2023 Officially Opened by Jokowi and Bamsoet

Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet), Chairman of the MPR RI and Chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) together with Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, accompanied Joko Widodo, the President, to open the Indonesia International Motor Show 2023 (IIMS 2023). It was attended by around 170 car and motorcycle brands, including ESEMKA which introduced its electric vehicle "Bima".

Bamsoet explained, IIMS 2023 has specifically provided a hall for automotive manufacturers to display their electric vehicles. So that it can support President Joko Widodo's program in accelerating the migration of oil-fueled vehicles to electric motors.

"IIMS 2023 is organized by Dyandra Promosindo on February 16-26, 2023 at JIExpo Kemayoran. Targeting 400,000 visitors with a transaction value of Rp 3.8 trillion. This target is very realistic, considering that at IIMS Hybrid 2022 on March 31-April 10, 2022 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, the factual value of transactions reached more than Rp 3 trillion with total sales reaching 9,634 units," said Bamsoet after opening IIMS 2023, at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Thursday (16/2/2023).

He also supports Joko Widodo's move to encourage automotive manufacturers to be export-oriented. Given that so far the trend of automotive sales in Indonesia is increasing. In 2022 alone, it was recorded that at least car sales had reached 1.48 million units. And motorcycles reached 5.2 million units.

"By being export-oriented, the vehicles produced will not only flood the domestic market, which in turn causes congestion. Instead, they can also provide added value to the national economy. The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) revealed that Completely Built Up (CBU) exports from Indonesia in January-November 2022 reached 423,619 units. An increase of 58.5 percent compared to the January-November 2021 period of 267,224 units," Bamsoet explained.

Bamsoet said, in addition to being a momentum for the growth of the automotive industry, IIMS 2023 must also be a momentum for the growth of the electric vehicle industry. Moreover, the government also continues to consistently encourage the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

"In addition to providing incentives to consumers in every purchase of electric vehicles, the government has also established the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), which is a breath of fresh air for the investment climate and the development of electric vehicles in Indonesia. At the same time, it will increase Indonesia's competitiveness in the global market," concluded Bamsoet.
