The tribute helmet that got Charles Leclerc into trouble

The special helmet was brought by Charles Leclerc to tribute to Canadian F1 legend Gilles Villeneuve.

However, unexpectedly, the Ferrari driver's actions even made the family of the late Gilles Villeneuve inflamed.

Gilles' daughter, Melanie, suddenly became angry and went to her sibling and 1997 F1 champion, Jacques Villeneuve.

To Jacques, Melanie expressed her objection to the special helmet introduced by Leclerc.

The Monaco driver wore the special helmet without consultation or permission from the Villenueve family.

Melanie objected because she did not receive any permission even though she held the trademark rights of her father.

The news quickly went viral with some spice, with netizens attacking Jacques Villeneuve's social media.

Netizens were furious that the Villeneuve family had gone too far in responding to Leclerc's tribute helmet.

The former Williams team driver finally made a special clarification to Formula 1 fans.

In essence, Jacques explained that it was Melanie who specifically objected to the helmet, not him.

"I immediately contacted Charles who was kind enough to call me. We had a good talk and apologized for the situation," Jacques said in his Instagram post.

"I assured her that it was a beautiful tribute and that I was fine with it personally," he explains.

Jacques finally bridged his extended family and Charles Leclerc to talk about it in a better way.

Fortunately, things got better, until finally the F1 legend's family was finally able to discuss directly with the racer.

"It's a shame that this went viral out of proportion, it became an unnecessary controversy," explains the 52-year-old.
