The subsidization of electric vehicles, especially electric motorcycles, will take effect today, Monday (20/3). For every purchase of one unit of electric motorcycle, the government will provide a subsidy of IDR 7 million.
"I will say that it will be effective on March 20 this year," Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said in early March.
This subsidy will be allocated for the purchase of 200,000 units of electric motorcycles. However, not all electric motorcycles will receive the subsidy privilege.
The subsidy only applies to motorcycles produced in Indonesia with a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of more than 40 percent. Manufacturers of electric motors that meet the criteria may not increase the selling price during the subsidy period.
Initially, only three electric motorcycle brands received subsidies, namely Gesits, Volta, and Selis. However, later a number of other motorcycle brands such as Smoot and Viar claimed to have met the requirements of the government and their electric motors were entitled to receive subsidies from the government.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang said the electric motor subsidy will be prioritized for people who the government believes are entitled to receive assistance.
"We make sure that those who we provide government assistance to purchase (electric) motorcycles, cars, are people who we deem eligible. That's the first thing. Second, you can't shop twice," Agus explained.
The recipients of the electric motor subsidy include MSME players, especially People's Business Credit recipients, recipients of Banpres Productive Micro Business (BPUM), and 450-900 VA electricity customers.
According to Agus, the scheme for subsidizing electric motors will be channeled through motorcycle manufacturers, not directly to buyers. In addition, one person cannot buy two subsidized electric vehicles.
"The subsidy is given to producers. So we can control it easily if it goes to the producers.
