KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa has had quite a busy three days shakedown test 2022 MotoGP at the Sepang Circuit, from January 31, 2022 to February 2, 2022.
Dani Pedrosa logged many laps on the KTM RC16, trying out many components on the two test bikes prepared by KTM.
However, there is something that makes many people frown, if we pay attention, there is not a single Pedrosa name in the time table during the three-day test.
Apart from Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez, the table only shows 'Kallio 1' which indicates Mika Kallio's first bike, then 'Kallio 2' which indicates Mika Kallio's second bike time.
This makes many people curious and suspicious, what exactly is Pedrosa's purpose for doing this?
KTM's new manager, Francesco Guidotti, revealed that Pedrosa did it on purpose.
"Dani is a little more old-fashioned about it. He wants to ride without a transponder," Guidotti said as reported by Speedweek.
"He rode for three full days. And he's fast," explained the former Pramac Racing boss.
Guidotti's answer was not taken at face value by HRC test rider Stefan Bradl.
"Mika Kallio is always shown on the time sheet every day with two transponders, and Dani Pedrosa seems to be hiding in one of them," Bradl said with great suspicion.
Bradl suspected Pedrosa of using Mika Kallio's transponder because it was impossible to ride without one.
Without a transponder, a test rider would know whether he is faster or not during a motorcycle test.
"I'm sure that it was Pedrosa who set Kallio's best time every day," Bradl continued.
"Because you still need a transponder on the bike so you can read your sector time. Otherwise your test is useless. Going out without a transponder would be useless," said the German rider.
Bradl's suspicions could be true because in previous tests, Pedrosa always appeared fast and faster than Kallio.
For example, on the second day of the 2019 Sepang test, Pedrosa entered the top 10 against 22 regular MotoGP riders.
