There was a load of nails that reportedly spilled over the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road km 48 + 800 towards Cikampek last weekend, or to be precise on Saturday (27/8/2022).
Based on the youtube post below, the nails that were scattered on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road hit a number of vehicle tires.
The video shows a number of nails stuck in the tires of a passing truck.
Training Director of Safety Defensive Consultant Indonesia (SDCI), Sony Susmana, also said that road users must be aware of the incident.
Because nail mines are usually one of the modes of crime on the road, it is advisable not to stop or pull over the vehicle carelessly.
"If a tire is hit by a nail, it doesn't actually deflate immediately, assuming that the tire used is a model of tubeless. So the driver has time to drive the vehicle to a safe place, for example a gas station," Sony said as quoted from GridOto.com, Monday (29/8/2022).
As a preventive measure, road users should also be aware of other vehicles that suddenly approach.
"Look around, if something is approaching and suspicious, force the vehicle to move slowly to a safe place. Do not speculate to stop," Sony said again.
"Indeed (forcing the road) has an impact on tire or rim damage, but it avoids crime," he explained.
The Operation and Maintenance Senior Manager Representative Office 1 of PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT), Nouval M. Rizky, admitted that he had brought in officers to check the location.
He said that the scattered nails were suspected not to have been intentionally scattered, but because they fell from a vehicle.
"The cause of the incident is suspected to be material cargo in the form of nails falling from the vehicle while passing at the scene of the crime," Nouval explained in an official statement, Sunday (28/8/2022).
He added that officers had also traced and cleared lanes 1, 2 and the road shoulder.
In addition, it has deployed security and order officers, as well as Mobile Customer Service officers to increase vigilance.
