Max Verstappen won the title in F1 Mexico 2022, while Lewis Hamilton was cheered by the crowd after finishing second in the race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
The cheers from the crowd were loudest when Lewis Hamilton went through his post race interview, after Max Verstappen became the Mexico 2022 F1 champion.
It wasn't the first time Hamilton had received cheers from the crowd, similar to those at the Red Bull Ring or Zandvoort, which are home races for Red Bull and Verstappen.
Verstappen was similarly cheered when racing on Hamilton's home turf, such as at Silverstone Circuit.
For F1 Mexico 2022 this time is a home race for Sergio Perez.
Predictably, fans will also be more supportive of Red Bull or Verstappen, as the Mexican's team and teammate.
However, during the interview, Perez gave a direct signal for the audience to stop cheering for Hamilton.
Hamilton did not want to bother about the cheers he received.
"Great crowd, but a little awkward this time. There was cheering all day," Hamilton said.
"But it's okay because I love Mexico and the people here, as well as the amazing race event they have this weekend," he explains.
Rather than discussing the cheers, Hamilton immediately turned the conversation towards the technical side of the race.
"In stint first I can get close. But I think obviously Red Bull was faster today, and especially they also used a better tire strategy," continued Hamilton.
"I wasn't sure about the good tires at the end of the race. I thought we should start with the soft, but we chose the opposite. At stint The first one was good, but the next hard tire made a mess, so congratulations to Max," he said.
