In the near future, the Korlantas Polri plans to change the base color of motor vehicle license plates to white.
The reason for the replacement is to support the electronic ticketing program or called Electronic Law Enforcement (ETLE).
The electronic ticketing system has indeed been implemented in recent times in a number of Indonesian regions.
However, in fact the technology still has obstacles, namely the ETLE camera cannot identify plates with a black background color and white text.
Director General of Korlantas Polri Brigadier General Pol Yusri Yunus said that the use of white base plates and black text colors will make no more mistakes occur.
"That the vehicle whose base plate is bright white has a very small error margin. We associate it with ETLE law enforcement, in ETLE there is a camera whose error margin is stronger on a bright base," Yusri said when met at his office recently.
"Indeed, many countries have used bright basic materials such as white, blue and yellow. With existing technology, there will be no more context of police and motorists arguing on the road so that there are cameras that become evidence," he added.
He targets that by 2027, all motorized vehicles on a national scale will have white license plates.
There are some vehicles that are prioritized to change from black license plates to white license plates within five years.
The priority vehicles are new vehicles, vehicles that have entered the five-year payment period, and vehicles that are transferred or move from one region to another.
"That indeed the priority scale is five-year vehicles, new vehicles, or vehicles that are transferred later," he said.
Brigadier General Yusri Yunus added that the attention to the color of motor vehicle plates is not carried out simultaneously, so people do not need to worry or be afraid if they have not used white license plates.
