Unexpectedly, Aruba.it Racing - Ducati team rider Alvaro Bautista managed to break the deadlock in the 1st WorldSBK Mandalika 2023 title.
For the first time, Alvaro Bautista has won a race at WorldSBK Mandalika 2023.
As quoted from GridOto.com, despite starting race 1 of the 2023 WorldSBK Mandalika from third position, Alvaro Bautista did a great start which is very good.
The 38-year-old driver immediately moved into second place, and followed Toprak Razgatlioglu from the start of the race.
Razgatlioglu had pulled away in the first few laps, but on lap 4 Bautista closed in and took the lead at Turn 15.
Since then, the Ducati rider has immediately stepped on the gas and slowly moved away.
In the end, Toprak Razgatlioglu had to settle for a second podium on his flagship track.
Despite missing out on the win, the Pata Yamaha team should be happy that Andrea Locatelli managed to grab the remaining podium in race 1.
Locatelli won the battle against Axel Bassani, who had an explosive start to the race.
Meanwhile, Danilo Petrucci managed to finish in the top five, having also made a good start at the start.
Jonathan Rea, who started the race with a penalty for his actions in the previous session, had to settle for only finishing 9th.
Rea tried to fight his way into the top five, but his rivals were also very good from the start of the race.
Meanwhile, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, who was dominant on Friday, had to drop out from the start of the race.
Too eager to start, Rinaldi braked too late at Turn 1 and almost hit his teammate, before falling and retiring from the race.
