After the White License Plate, There's also a Green Plate

Just a few months ago, a white base plate with black lettering was introduced in some Polda areas.

Currently, there is another basic green vehicle license plate that has begun to be implemented.

As quoted from GridOto.com, The Directorate of Traffic (Ditlantas) of the Riau Islands Police (Kepri) starting October 1, 2022 will apply a green base plate with black lettering.

This base plate is planned to be used for the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) areas in Batam, Bintan and Karimun.

Dirlantas Polda Kepri, Kombes Tri Yulianto said the difference in the color of the vehicle license plate was based on the Implementation of Free Trade Areas and Free Ports.

The implementation of the free trade area is regulated in Minister of Finance Regulation Number 34/PMK 04/2021.

The Decree regulates the entry and exit of goods to and from areas that have been designated as free trade zones and free ports.

Under this rule, motor vehicles with green base plates cannot be operated or transferred to other parts of Indonesia.

This is because vehicles with green license plates are purchased without import duty.

The vehicles are not subject to import duty because the three areas are included in the FTZ which has specialty. So, vehicles with green base plates can only operate in the three areas, namely Batam, Bintan and Karimun.

Meanwhile, vehicles imported from abroad and subject to import duties continue to use white base plates with black lettering.

So, it is treated the same as other vehicles and can be operated outside the free trade area.

"For the FTZ area according to the regulation, the green color of black writing is for vehicles in the free trade area that get import duty exemption facilities and based on statutory provisions," explained Kombes Tri.
