A Brief Explanation of How Electric Cars Work

The trend of electric cars in Indonesia is growing along with people's interest.

Slightly different from a fuel-engine car, of course, you need to know how an electric car works.

To better understand, let's get to know how electric cars work in general.

Quoted from Circuits Today in the article "Working Of Electric Cars", there are three main components in an electric car.

In the article, the main components are battery pack, inverterA traction motor, and an electric motor that is also referred to as a traction motor.

Battery pack stores a certain amount of electric current as the main energy in the amount of kWh capacity (kilowatt hour).

The amount of electric current released is regulated by the component controller.

In the article, there is a diagram depiction Controller integrated with the accelerator pedal, which in fuel-engine cars is known as the gas pedal.

When the accelerator pedal is pressed, controller regulates the amount of electric current from battery pack that goes inside inverter according to the depth of the pedal stroke.

Here, inverter acts as an electric current converter.

DC electric current inside battery pack is converted into the AC electric current required by the traction motor.

When an electric motor receives an electric current, the rotor inside the electric motor rotates to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy.

Mechanical energy in the form of rotation will rotate the single-speed automatic transmission gear.

Thus, the single-speed automatic transmission forms gear ratios according to the amount of rotation generated by the traction motor rotor.

Transmission connected to gear drive shaft drive wheels and regulate the speed of the electric car.
