5 types of car chassis that are widely used today

Sahabat Oto... Every car must have a chassis or frame or chassis in the form of a frame that becomes a place to attach other components ranging from the engine, electronic devices to the vehicle body itself.

The chassis in a car functions as a load-bearing vehicle, engine, transmission, all components, and passengers who will be in the car.

In addition, the chassis functions to maintain the shape of the car so that it remains rigid and does not deform when used. The material used must of course have the strength to withstand the entire load of the car...

Chassis forming materials vary based on the type of vehicle used as well as the ability, durability, and safety to maintain driving conditions.

Currently, there are at least five types of car chassis that are widely used, each of which has different technologies and designations.

Ladder Frame

Ladder frame is a chassis that looks like a ladder. Although the shape is unique, this chassis is suitable as the basis for the car body, engine, and other components, especially for vehicles that have to support a fairly heavy weight.

Monocoque Chassis

Monocoque chassis is a chassis that is made to be integrated with the car body. The outer part of the car body, which is part of the chassis, functions as a framework that can protect the cabin space from impact.

The monocoque chassis is made of composite steel sheets that are joined and reinforced so that they can be molded into a car body frame.

Chassis Backbone

The backbone chassis is a chassis that has a shape like a single main frame bone. It is positioned across the center of the car. This makes the front and rear of the car connected to each other. The backbone chassis can also be referred to as a single chassis.

Unfortunately, this chassis has many drawbacks, such as higher production costs and poor side impact.
Tubular Space Frame

Tubular space frame is a chassis made of steel pipes that are assembled and formed so that they directly form a car according to construction. The strength of this chassis is highly dependent on the quality of its welded joints. Arguably, this chassis is the best in terms of heavy load resistance, impact, and torsional rigidity protection. This is why tubular space frames are widely applied in the world of car racing.

`Aluminum Space Frame

Aluminum space frame is a chassis made like a monocoque but using aluminum. The advantage of this chassis is that it is lighter and stiffer 40% than a monocoque frame.
