Recently, the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has issued an instruction to prohibit traffic police from issuing manual tickets to traffic violators on October 18, 2022.
Indonesia Traffic Watch (ITW) appreciates the Chief of Police's instruction and prioritizes the use of Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) or electronic ticketing.
As quoted from GridOto.com"This is a good step in an effort to prevent potential peaceful practices between officers and motorists who violate the rules," said Edison Siahaan, Monday (24/10/2022).
"But maybe the order is applied in normal conditions, so that officers do not look for driver errors," he continued.
However, Edison asked police members to continue ticketing motorists who clearly committed violations.
"But under certain conditions, for example irresponsible drivers and the potential to trigger accidents must still be dealt with firmly by giving tickets, because not all regions can implement ETLE optimally. So it must be adjusted to the conditions in the field.
But most importantly, Edison continued, officers and motorists agreed to reject illegal transactions such as extortion and bribery.
Previously, the Korlantas Polri said that 34 police stations in Indonesia already had ETLE, both static and static. mobile.
Drivers who violate traffic rules will be photographed and sent a ticket.
"All Poldas already have e-TLE, both static and mobile. mobile. The mechanism is the same as what has been implemented so far, from capture by the camera, verification and validation, sending confirmation letters, to payment of fines," concluded Dirgakkum Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General Pol Aan Suhanan.
Aan said that in implementing the National Police Chief's order, Traffic Police personnel will enforce the law non-judicially, in the form of education to motorists.
"The direction of the Chief of Police is clear, that the emphasis is on compliance and the protection and safety of the community. We continue to carry out non-judicial law enforcement to provide education. For judicial law enforcement, we maximize e-TLE," he said.
